What a fantastic evening at Gattopardo.
After walking through the beautiful open-air courtyard and up the tiled stairs I entered a clean, bright room with the most eye catching, beautiful plates on the tables. This was Gattopardo on Tras street and I was in for a Sicilian treat and a fantastic evening!
After an amuse bouche of fresh Salmon with Apple Wasabi, my friend and I were ready for our 4-course degustation menu.
I love a degustation menu because I get to try food I wouldn’t usually choose. (And of course, I get to try a lot!)
The House Special
Tonight was no different; I started with a mouth-watering Tuna Tartare. After this a pasta dish that falls under the ‘food I’d never normally choose’ umbrella: the House Special with Sea Urchins!
It was incredible. Homemade pasta and a smooth creamy sauce. The urchins were great… I would now order them again!
The Main and Dessert
Then I had an incredible Blue Cod dish which had a crunchy skin and was cooked to perfection. To be fair, I would usually order that. I love fish and Gattopardo does fish really really well!
I wouldn’t usually order a Semifredo which was what we had for dessert. It was utterly delicious. Crunchy and smooth and nutty and… very quickly in my rapidly filling stomach!
Meeting Chef Lino
At the end of our dinner Chef Lino came out to introduce himself. Even though he was busy cooking for a full house. And of course, he signed the book. That’s what I love about ‘Table Tales’- you get the personal touch. I remember each and every one of the restaurants that I went to from last year’s book (‘Eat Singapore’). I remember each meal, each chef who came out and chatted, each friend I took with me.
Table Tales gives me the gift of memories
When I got given Table Tales, I didn’t just get given a book that introduced me to a shortlist of top notch restaurants, a free main course and what will become a coffee table book. Yes, I got all that, but I also get the gift of memories. And for a ‘foodie’ like me you don’t get much better than memories made over the course of an evening over a table of delicious food.
Thank you Kate Paxton for sharing your experience at Gattopardo with us!
